A family tradition since 1949
Ferdinand (Ferdie) Burkhartzmeyer started his shoe journey at the Shaft-Pierce Shoe Factory, one of Faribault’s largest employers throughout the early 1900s, as a leather-buyer and cutting floor supervisor. After the closing of Shaft-Pierce in the late 1930s, Ferdie, with his wife, Martha, decided to put his knowledge and skills to good use by opening a shoe and harness repair shop in 1936. Their three sons - Alvin, Walter, and Donald - served together in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and upon returning home, joined the family business.
